Youth Match Report: Cambridge Utd 1 Diamonds 0

Posted on: Fri 07 Oct 2011

Diamonds U18s completed their season on Monday with a 0-1 defeat against Cambridge United. Although an away game, the match was played in Nene Park Stadium due to the non availability of their London Academy's Grove Park pitch.

Ben Ekins had the best chance of a fairly even first half, striking the crossbar after just 5 minutes. An injury to leading scorer Jake Woolley after half an hour resulted in his withdrawal, Jake Gillingwater replacing up front.

Cambridge scored the only goal of the game on 59 minutes, when Quentin Conteh volleyed past Kyle Swailes in the Diamonds goal after a one-two set him clear of the defence.

Jake Gillingwater fired over from a tight angle, before a through ball from Kieran Tarry saw Gillingwater slot home on 69 minutes, only to find the flag up for offside.

In the final twenty minutes, Kyle Swailes made a couple of good saves to maintain the score-line, while in added time, Zack Reynolds had a shot defected just wide, but despite the defeat, the title had already been secured.
