Paul Driver's Post Match Reaction

Posted on: Thu 20 May 2010

We spoke to Head of Youth at Rushden & Diamonds Paul Driver following the 4-1 win that saw Rushden & Diamonds Youth become Northamptonshire FA Boys Under 18 Cup Winners, the culmination of the youth team's season.

"It was a great experience for the lads, nine of the sixteen man squad out there were Under 16s, and eight of those played on the night. So the experience they will have gained from that will prove valuable next year with the FA Youth Cup and Midland Youth Cup - and for those Under 16s it'll be great for the year after as well."

"It's a good result on the main pitch, where we haven't done overly well in big games this season, so we've broken the 'curse' if you like, of the stadium. For eight of our Under 16 boys to be involved against a decent Under 18 side and to play as strongly as they did was very good, and very positive news for the future."

"There was fantastic support for both teams, which was nice to see - and again thanks to the people who have been there throughout the season, people like Susan Longstaff, Glenis Haynes, Shaun Hodgkin, also people like David Mason and Matthew Banyard on the match reporting and website front. And of course the two lads (they know who they are!) who were the two supporters at Northampton Club Westone 81 at the 25-0 win that started off this cup run."

"Its great for the youth players to know that there are supporters who are prepared to come out on a Sunday afternoon, or a midweek afternoon, or a Tuesday or Wednesday night and support them throughout the season."
