Diamonds youth team played out a 5-0 win against Oxford City Blues in their final League game of the campaign on Wednesday afternoon. With the title already confirmed, they kept the momentum going ahead of next Wednesday's Championship Play-Off Quarter Final.
Diamonds took the lead on 18 minutes when Connor Hayes played the ball up to Jake Gillingwater, who positioned the ball past the Oxford keeper. A couple of good chances fell to Lewis Wilson, but his first effort went high before striking the post with another shot.
Anthony Stockman got a second goal on 37 minutes, when George Cox received the ball from Matt Evans, and cut the ball back from the by-line.
On 58 minutes, Adam Sharpe played a great ball forward to Lewis Wilson, and his cross into the centre was side-footed home by Jake Gillingwater from ten yards.
Liam Read replaced Gillingwater on 62 minutes, and was one of a trio of players to strike the woodwork in a five minute spell - George Cox and Aynsley McDonald also being denied. Nabil Shariff came on for Lewis Wilson on 73 minutes, and within four minutes, added a fourth goal after a strong run by Read.
Despite being a spectator for most of the game, Diamonds keeper James Broadbent did well to palm away a long range effort during the closing moments. Cox had the misfortune to strike the post again with another shot from the edge of the area, before Liam Read completed the scoring on 88 minutes, finishing off Shariff's delicate flick forward.
Diamonds play Southern Division 'C' winners Ebbsfleet United at Stonebridge Road on Wednesday 5th May (2pm kick-off) in the Quarter finals of the Championship Play-Offs.
