Rushden & Diamonds Youth Team continued their Football Conference Youth Alliance campaign with a 3-0 win at home to Spalding.

Lewis Wilson made it 1-0 on 19 minutes, Morgan Phillips made it 2-0 finishing a pass by Nabil Shariff following some good work down the right on 38 minutes.

The second half was a more muted affair, with Spalding's keeper stretchered off, knocked out after a clash of heads and their centre back going in goal. Nabil Shariff scored on the 90th minute to make it 3-0.

Head of Youth Paul Driver commented "I don't want to sound too negative, it was a changed team after a few knocks on Monday night against Solihull. There were a few people playing out of position, Wilson's playing Right Midfield, Sean Shields is playing centre midfield, Connor Hayes is playing centre back.

When we've kept the ball we've done alright, and we've kept another clean sheet, so that's 6 games without conceding a goal, our keeper didn't have much to do in terms of saves - But there is a lot more to come from those first years as a group."

Solihull Moors Youth 0 - 4 Rushden & Diamonds Youth
Midland Youth Cup - 1st Round
Monday 28th September 2009

On Monday night, the Diamonds Youth started their Midland Youth Cup season off with a 4-0 win away at Solihull Moors. With goals from Nabil Shariff, Sean Shields (2) and Lewis Hallford.

Paul Driver added "Nabil got the first one, then he had a penalty saved and their boy got sent off as a result of that foul. They were sitting back deep anyway and making us attack them, they sat back even more after that. Connor had what looked like a good one disallowed just before half time.

For the second half I thought we upped the tempo well, Sean got two and Lewis Hallford got one. Coxy hit the bar, Dan Easlea hit the bar from a free kick, I thought that was a very very good performance. They're not a bad side Solihull, they've got a few very decent players, so to go away there on the big pitch and get that result I'm really pleased with it."

Todays result see's the Youth Team's overall record so far this season as Played 6, Won 6, Drawn 0, Lost 0 - Goals For 60, Goals Against 0. An average of 10 goals per game!

The next match is against Luton Town in the FA Youth Cup 2nd Round Qualifying on Wednesday 7th October at 7:45pm
