Youth Team to face Grays Athletic
Following the 4-1 win against Stotfold in the 3rd Qualifying Round on Monday, the Youth Team are at home to Grays Athletic in the First Round Proper of the FA Youth Cup.
After wins against Rothwell (3-0) and Kettering (2-2, Diamonds won on penalties), the youth team played their 3rd Qualifying Round game at Nene Park against a strong Stotfold team, who had already dumped Huntingdon out of the competition 6-0 in the previous round. The game started off as an evenly matched contest, with both teams looking strong going forwards. The break came on the 14th minute, when John Wigglesworth and Sam Smith scored two goals in two minutes to make the tie comfortable for the Diamonds. James Freshwater headed in a cross from Lewis Hilliard down the left to make it three nil, in an impressive first half display. Stotfold were not without an attacking threat of their own however, and certainly did not go down without a fight, clever passing play bought about their goal by Joshua Butina as the first half drew to a close. The second half started with early Stotfold pressure, the Diamonds eased their foot off the pedal as the game progressed, happy to let Stotfold attack their strong defence and break on the counter attack. One of these breaks rounded off a great result for the Diamonds as Anthony Weston's shot-come-cross looped over the Stotfold Goalkeeper to make it 4-1.
Grays Athletic and Leverstock Green played their qualifying round tie on Wednesday 24th, with Grays Athletic winning 2-1 with goals from Odedoyin and Sendehore.
The date and time for the FA Youth Cup 1st Round Proper match are yet to be confirmed, details will be announced once decided between the two teams, although the game must be played by Saturday 10th November 2007.
