Here are some comments from Lauren Rowe, one of the students on the supporter2reporter course.
This week (April 7th-11th) has been beyond amazing. Six people from Year Nine at Latimer and six from Ferrers have been at the Rushden & Diamonds study centre learning reporting & interview techniques. I've learnt so much but also enjoyed it and met some incredible people. Everyone has got on exceptionally well and we have really put ourselves out there, sometimes doing things we haven't wanted to or have felt nervous about. I have grown so much in confidence and I hope this experience will help me continue to do so.
We have been treated to a variety of experiences which include a stadium tour at Rushden & Diamonds, a visit to Sky News to see the real reporting working environment, an opportunity to interview players and staff at Rushden & Diamonds and Kettering Town, and an experience at being members of the press at the match on the 11th - Rushden & Diamonds v Kettering Town at Nene Park, a match which thankfully for most of our team ended in the home team winning 1-0, but we also had an exclusive interview with the managers before the match, took fans opinions before during and after the match and went into the press box to see it working live, so much was going on yet it was really calm.
Our centre staff were amazing and they not only taught us well but also had a laugh with us which definitely made us want to come in every morning. They were really enthusiastic and had the knowledge to fill us in on everything.
We were encouraged to push ourselves out of our comfort zones and meet new people instead of keeping to ourselves which really helped us throughout the week. Everyone came out of their shells and there isn't anybody who I wouldn't want to meet again. Honestly, I believe I will miss this week so much now it has ended.
Finally I would like to thank everybody, the other 11 'students' at the centre, you all just made me laugh. We've all got on really well like we've known each other forever, and I've only known six of you since Tuesday! - I couldn't have wished for a better group of people, and the staff, Sara, Rob, Anna, Sarah, Glynn, and Suzie who gave me this opportunity that I will most certainly never forget. Just thank you so much to every one of you, you've all made this week worth it.
