Defender Jamie Stuart signed at Nene Park on a one year deal in June 2009, later being announced as captain. He played 47 games in all competitions during the 2009/10 season, scoring 4 goals, and won the Supporter's Player of the Season, Travel Club Away Player of the Season, and the Evening Telegraph Player of the Month for April/May awards. After this first season for the club, including leading them to the end-of-season playoffs, and winning a place in the Blue Square Premier Team of the Season, he signed to remain at Nene Park for the 2010-11 season.
Manager Justin Edinburgh commented on the second agreement: "I'm absolutely delighted to have secured Jamie's signing for another season. He's shown his value on and off the pitch as a fantastic leader and hopefully this signing will set an example to the other players out of contract that we have offered contracts to.
Jamie has shown his value and has won numerous awards this season, I'm delighted and I'm sure the fan are too, Jamie's signing is great news to take the club forward."
The 32 year old started his career with Charlton Athletic, later playing for Millwall, Bury, Southend and Hornchurch. Jamie was with Grays Athletic from 2004 until mid-2009, spending latter years as the club's captain, and also having a spell as joint-assistant manager at that club early in 2009. Following that period he was named as Grays "Player of the Decade" by the Grays Athletic Supporters Trust. He has also represented England at Under 21 level.
Jamie commented on his appointment as club captain shortly after his arrival; "I'd like to see myself as someone who is a leader that other players can follow and take inspiration from. The season can be a long season and sometimes players can get mentally drained, especially younger players; because I've been in the game a long time I know how to mentally get through that and help the players to hopefully be stronger.
I love a bit of banter off the field, I'm one of the worst for having a joke and a laugh but when it comes to training and matches then I'm very serious."
Jamie made his Diamonds debut on 8th August 2009 in the 2-0 defeat by Salisbury City at Nene Park.
