Midfielder Nicky McNamara signed a one year deal with Rushden & Diamonds on 29th April 2009 - aged 19. He had been with the club since 20th March 2009, on a short term deal, and had featured in several first team games at the end of the 2008/09 season.
Nicky was given his first professional contract at Hull City at the start of the 2008-09 season, after developing through the Tigers youth side, but struggled to gain first team Premiership football, and signed for the Diamonds following his release from Hull.

He made his Diamonds debut as a substitute in the goalless draw at Grays Athletic on 31st March 2009, and then went on to make his first start on 13th April in the game at Histon. After impressing in the two starts and three substitute appearances during April 2009 he was awarded the one year deal.

After his opportunities in the First Team were limited due to an early season injury picked up in the 2009/10 season, he was released at the end of that season.
