Midfielder Mark Byrne joined Rushden & Diamonds on loan from Nottingham Forest, towards the end of July 2009, initially until January 2010, but the loan was then extended until the end of the 2009/10 season.
He is a 20-year-old midfielder; he has featured prominently for Nottingham Forest's reserves after graduating from their academy, earning his first team debut under manager Billy Davies. Mark had a loan spell at Blue Square Premier Champions Burton Albion towards the end of last season.
Manager Justin Edinburgh added "He's an excellent addition to the squad, he's played at this level with Burton Albion who were champions last year so he knows what is expected at this level. He's tenacious, he's full of energy, he's not the biggest in stature but he makes up for that with his energy and desire to come and do well.
I think we've certainly seen in the first couple of games the quality James Reid has brought to us and I'm sure Mark Byrne will bring exactly the same."
Byrne made his Diamonds debut on 18th August 2009 as a substitute in the 2-1 victory over Hayes & Yeading United, and then scored his debut goal for the club four days later against Forest Green Rovers.
After a successful season at Nene Park, during which he helped the club reach the end-of-season playoffs, he was rewarded with the Players' Player of the Season award. He returned to his parent club at the end of the loan period in May 2010.
