Northern Ireland born defender / midfield player Michael Corcoran joined Rushden & Diamonds from Oxford United mid-way through the 2007 / 08 season. After impressing during the remainder of that season the Diamonds took out the extension option on his contract to retain him for the 2008 / 09 season, and then signed him to a deal to keep him at the club until the end of the 2009 / 10 season.

Corcoran started his career at Cardiff City, working up through the youth system and becoming a youth international player for Northern Ireland before moving to Oxford, initially on loan, and then signing permanently at the Kassam Stadium in May 2007. In the first part of the 2007 / 08 season, he made 14 starts, scoring one goal for the U's. In the remainder of the 2007/08 season he appeared 17 times for the Diamonds.
During the 2008/09 season Michael played 38 times for the Diamonds in League games, including 7 as substitute, playing in midfield early in the season, then reverting to full back, playing both left and right back, as well as a spell at Centre Back.
