Midfielder Lewwis Spence signed for Rushden & Diamonds during the pre-season period at the start of the 2010-11 season aged 22. The midfielder started his career with Crystal Palace, where he was a regular at Youth and Reserve levels, playing three games for the club, also playing three games for Palace's feeder club Crystal Palace Baltimore in the USA on loan.
In 2008, Lewwis moved to Wycombe Wanderers, playing 30 games for the Chairboys between 2008 and 2010. During that time at the start of last season Spence went on loan to Forest Green Rovers, playing 7 times.
Manager Justin Edinburgh spoke about Lewwis, saying: "I've known him from the short time I worked with Peter Taylor at Wycombe scouting, I've seen him play and I think he certainly gives us that balance of the left footed player we've needed. He comes with excellent references from people in the game and once we had the opportunity to bring him in I'm delighted to have sealed it and have him here with us now looking forward to the new season. There were one or two League clubs showing an interest, but once he'd seen the football club and spoken to myself, he was delighted to come and join us."

Lewwis commented on his signing: "The lads have all been welcoming, it's my first day of training but its something to build on and I'm looking forward to it. I'm a centre midfielder, up and down the field I like to score goals now and again!
Last season was disappointing, I got injured during pre-season, and after a change of manager it just didn't really work out from there, this year I've got a lot to prove to myself and the people that have doubted me!"

He made his Diamonds debut in the 1-1 draw against Fleetwood Town on 14th August 2010 at the start of the Blue Square Bet Premier season.
