Striker Neil Cousins signed for Rushden & Diamonds in late December 2008, aged 26.
Cousins started his career in the Essex Senior League with Burnham Ramblers, moving on to Maldon and then Braintree Town. He joined Heybridge Swifts in 2002, then moving to Billericay in 2004, and returning back to Heybridge in 2005. Cousins spent much of last season sidelined with a lengthy injury, however he had impressed during the 2008-09 season at the Swifts, scoring six goals in eighteen appearances.
He made his Diamonds debut as a substitute in the Boxing Day game at Stevenage Borough, where he collected an "assist" for his part in the Diamonds consolation goal. He then made his home debut in the return fixture at Nene Park on New Year's Day.
Neil scored his debut goal for the Diamonds in the 2-1 victory over Salisbury City in April 2009.
With the announcement of the squad list for the 2009-10 season it was confirmed that Neil would be staying at Nene Park for that season.
