Striker Craig Farrell joined the Diamonds in mid-June 2009 from York City in a deal that saw Michael Rankine move in the opposite direction. After a successful first season for the club, when he scored 13 goals in all competitions, the option to extend his contract for the 2010-11 was taken up by the club.

Justin Edinburgh commented on the original signing - "I'm happy to get him and he's a good player. It's an excellent bit of business for the club and I feel we've got an excellent striker, I'm certainly looking forward to working with him and I think the crowd will quickly warm to him.

"He has got a great work ethic, he's a clever player with a good first touch - he'll certainly chip in with his share of goals. He's always done well against my teams in the past when we've played against him and I'm certainly glad to have him on board."

Farrell started his career as a junior with Middlesbrough and later Leeds United, moving to Carlisle after a loan move was made permanent, after scoring 20 goals in 80 appearances he moved to Exeter City and then York City. He joined the Diamonds when aged 26, and made his Diamonds debut on 8th August 2009 as a substitute in the 2-0 defeat by Salisbury City at Nene Park. He scored his first goal for the Diamonds on 18th August 2009 in the 2-1 victory over Hayes & Yeading United.
