Phil Gulliver has had two spells at Rushden & Diamonds. He initially joined the club in 2004 from Middlesbrough, and played a vital role in central defence throughout the 2004/05 and 2005/06 seasons, winning 'Player of the Season' in 2005/06. After being offered a contract for the 2006/07 season, Phil signed for Hereford United, despite a delay in signing after an agreement had to be reached due to a misunderstanding over compensation.

After failing to settle into a regular place at Hereford, despite winning 'Player of the Month' in December, Gulliver was released from his Hereford contract at the end of the 2006/07 season allowing him to re-join Rushden & Diamonds, initially on a one year contract prior to the start of the 2007/08 season. After impressing during that season he was offered a further contract which will keep him at Nene Park until the end of the 2008/09 season.

The former Middlesbrough youth and reserve player never managed to break into the first team under Steve McClaren, taking loan spells at Blackpool, Carlisle, Bournemouth, Bury and Scunthorpe during his time at The Riverside.
