Goalkeeper Dale Roberts, who had been on loan at Nene Park from Nottingham Forest on two occasions, signed on contract for Rushden & Diamonds on January 2nd 2009, through to 2011, following his transfer from the City Ground.
Roberts initially signed on loan from Forest in the 2007-08 season, making 19 appearances, including the Setanta Shield Final, then returning to the City Ground as that season drew to a close. In the 2008-09 season Roberts signed on loan again in October 2008, as cover for Alan Marriott who was facing stomach surgery. Dale made 18 appearances during that loan period, conceding 22 times, with 5 clean sheets, prior to signing on contract.

The 6' 3" Goalkeeper is a product of the Forest youth system and was a regular on the first team bench for Forest during their 2007/08 campaign. Dale also spent the 2006/07 season on loan at Conference North side Alfreton Town, where he made 47 appearances. He then spent the latter part of the 2007/08 season on loan at Nene Park, making 19 appearances for the first team, including several appearances in the Setanta Shield through to the final before being recalled by Forest to cover their run in towards promotion to the Championship.
His impressive performances during the 2008-09 season included an appearance for the England C team in their 4-0 victory over Malta. His performances also won him the Rushden & Diamonds Travel Club Player of the Season award.
During the 2009-10 season he played in all four England C games, and was voted the England C player of the season. During the season he had played against Hungary Under-23s in Székésfehérvár, Poland Under-23's in Grodzisk Wielkopolski in November 2009 and then in a 1-0 friendly win against the East of Scotland League representative side in May 2010 and in the 2-1 win over the Republic of Ireland in the International Challenge Trophy later that month.
