We spoke to Justin Edinburgh ahead of the trip to York on Saturday, where he lets us know the latest on the squad in terms of injuries, and international call-ups.
Justin, looking towards the York game. Are there any additions to the squad from that injury list?
No, its as you were, unfortunately, which is leaving us a little bit bare at the moment but on the other side of it they are progressing well and Aaron O'Connor joined us for training today which is a massive boost for the squad and for himself.
Michael Corcoran and Craig Farrell are progressing well, but Shane Huke's not as quick.
So we're getting there slowly, I'd like to think that we'd have three back for Newport I would imagine.
I imagine Faz, Aaron and Cockers will all be in contention for the Newport squad.
We've arranged a game next mid week where hopefully at least two or three of them will take some part in that game.
How serious is Shane, because he missed the whole bank holiday in the end.
The Phys thought it might have been quite serious in terms of cruciate. But we scanned him last Friday, there was slight damage to the knee joint on the outside and where the impact was, it completely jarred his knee and the insertion of the calf has been damaged. So it's just a case of time healing that really other than anything else.
Do you know how long that will be?
Well at the minute it's very stiff and uncomfortable in that area. It could be anything around two to three weeks we guess.
You're fairly bare for numbers, especially at right back. Two of those injured players (Michael Corcoran, Shane Huke) could have stepped in with Justin Miller being suspended. What are you thinking, Max Porter to step in there?
Well I've certainly thought of that. Obviously we have the option of maybe playing Jamie Day at right back too. There's food for thought there, I know Max has efficiently stepped into that position on numerous occasions and certainly again on Monday at Kettering.
But I think we know he's capable of doing that so that's a massive plus for us in terms of his versatility. But obviously we had the option of looking at Jamie Day there as well.
Presumably Curtis Osano is not an option at right back now, he's now certainly a centre back.
He would be an option on the right if we had a spare centre half to cover for him! *laughs*
Of course, I think certainly he's bossing them there at the minute alongside the skipper. Last couple of games he's been immense and that's where I feel we get best value for him in terms of using all his assets consistently throughout the game.
Curtis and Max called to the England C squad as well with Dale again. A massive boost for those three lads and the club. And with Aynsley in the Wales squad as well.
Yeah. Obviously fantastic achievement for all four and deservedly so. And obviously delighted for Aynsley again, he's continuing his progression, making his way up through the Welsh ranks, now at Under 19 level. So it'll be good for him to get away. Disappointing that he missed a whole lot of preseason. He's coming back into it now, so pleased for him again and great for the football club to be represented by these players.
Is Aynsley one of those you'll be looking to send out on loan in due course?
In due course, at the moment he's involved in the squad and obviously I think for his further development he needs to go out and play competitive football. I think that's showing with what Nabil's doing at Banbury at the minute, three goals in four games. So it's all about progression, certainly if we send them to the right clubs at the right level I feel they're getting towards achieving that.
