Justin Edinburgh: Expecting a tough encounter

Posted on: Wed 08 Sep 2010

We spoke to Justin Edinburgh about our opponents ahead of Saturday's trip to York

Looking at Saturday, are you slightly surprised York have started slowly?

I think no one's running away and no one's being left behind in the sense that we're only at the start of September. Certainly they haven't become a bad team overnight.

I think we found out ourselves it's not as easy as you think to get going. They had the hangover of losing in the final. I expect a tough encounter though; I don't feel form at the moment can be taken into account.

Obviously they've lost Brodie to Crawley minutes before the deadline which is probably not right timing for the manager because he hasn't been able to add to his squad at present.

People say it's a good time to play them, I don't think there is a good time, it's a tough place to go, we found that in previous seasons, it's not always easy to go there.

So we go there confident, but obviously they're not up and running yet but certainly what they've got in the squad, that can happen anytime so we certainly won't go there expecting an easy game or a free ride, we know what to expect.

You'd expect to see Rankine and Gash up front, what do you make of those two?

Good players. I think Gash is in the England side so I think that speaks volumes. And they might form a formidable partnership, I think they've been perhaps playing in Brodie's shadows over the last year or so and they may blossom with that.

So I think we're certainly going to be, and our back four will be in for a tough encounter on Saturday.

And they've kept two clean sheets in the last three games and like you say Curtis Osano and Stuart have been immense.

Yeah, I think they pride themselves on their success last year in conceding very few goals. I certainly feel that, that's going to be the case on Saturday, that probably one or two goals in it either way. Both teams will base themselves that they've got good defences and haven't conceded many this season.

So I expect a tough encounter and a close encounter really.
