BROWN LANDS AUGUST AWARD AS WOMBLES START BRIGHTLY
Terry Brown from AFC Wimbledon has been named the Blue Square Bet Premier 'manager of the month' for August. Brown's side have made a great start to the season and currently sit second in the table tied on points with early leaders Mansfield Town and big-spending Crawley. The Wombles started their campaign with three straight wins. Their defence held firm as they went over 300 minutes without conceding a goal until Shane Huke found the net in their only defeat at Rushden & Diamonds. The South West London club bounced back with a hard fought 3-2 win at Eastbourne Borough before drawing with fellow promotion hopefuls Newport County on Bank Holiday Monday. Brown previously won the award in December of last season.
The Blue Square Bet North 'manager of the month' for August is Nicky Law from Alfreton Town. Law's side followed on from their fantastic pre-season form to record six wins from six matches in the opening month of the campaign. The team found the net 19 times during that period and achieved two 5-1 away wins in the process.
The Blue Square Bet South 'manager of the month' for August is Mark Goldberg from Bromley. The Kent club finished the month with an unblemished one-hundred percent record after some difficult looking fixtures. Goldberg's side beat pre-season title favourites Havant & Waterlooville before important victories over local rivals Welling United and promotion hopefuls Bishop's Stortford.
FROM 'FLEET TO FLEETWOOD NOBODY CAN STOP VIEIRA
Magno Vieira from Fleetwood Town has been named the Blue Square Bet Premier 'player of the month' for August. Vieira joined the Lancashire club in pre-season and wasted no time in making his mark, scoring on his league debut in a 1-1 draw at Rushden & Diamonds. The Brazilian born striker then struck twice in a three goal victory for his side over early table-toppers Mansfield Town and also scored what turned out to be the winning goal in a Bank Holiday Monday win over York City. His tally for the period was five goals in six matches. Vieira won the same award in January of last season when in similar form for his previous club Ebbsfleet United.
The Blue Square Bet North 'player of the month' for August is Phil Trainer from AFC Telford United. The midfielder has scored six goals in six unbeaten matches for his side including double strikes in the home wins over Nuneaton Town and Gloucester City.
The Blue Square Bet South 'player of the month' for August is Nathan McDonald from Braintree Town. The Iron goalkeeper has been in fantastic form as his side have climbed the table to sit in second place at this early stage. McDonald kept five clean sheets in six matches and made some incredible saves as the Essex club remained unbeaten.
