Justin Edinburgh: Outstanding commitment and workrate

Posted on: Fri 03 Sep 2010

A good win Justin

Yeah, a fantastic win, a good result - not vintage in terms of the football played but certainly outstanding in terms of commitment, workrate and throwing our bodies on the line where it was necessary.

A well organised win as well wasn't it

Yeah, I'm going to be honest, we've played better than that this year and taken nothing, so we'll take what comes along, I thought Kettering, to be fair to Lee and his team, came out in the second half and threw everything at us. I thought Curtis Osano and Jamie Stuart were immense at the back, and Dale Roberts was safe as ever with his handling. Then obviously we had the man sent off, and I thought with ten men we've played very very well. I'm delighted for the fans and the players today.

It was a strange old goal wasn't it. I don't think the Rushden fans realised until about ten seconds later.

There was certainly a delay on the celebration wasn't there, I thought it had come over the top and was sitting on the back of the net, so I was a bit like our fans, it took a while for us to realise it had gone in. There wasn't many clear cut chances in the game, I said that before the game it'd be tight and competitive, and that's what it proved to be.

You just about edged the first half, did you feel you'd be organised enough to sit back and hold them at bay.

Its not something we've set out to do, you look at our games and we've usually been leading or level at half time, but we've started a bit slow, I don't want to make too much of it, but as good as we've been first half, we haven't been able to get going straight away in the second half, so its something we need to address quickly. We've got a few days now where we can regroup, hopefully get a few of the players who are injured back into the squad and look forward.

It was a very tight encounter, physical, but fair, treated in the right way and a typical derby.

Justin Miller was sent off, the first yellow was maybe a bit harsh, but the second a bit silly.

The ref's eager to show that first one and it leaves a player in that intense environment and atmosphere a little bit exposed, I'm not going to criticise, its easy to make judgement but I thought he was a bit too easy to show the first one, but the second one was a foul, he felt that was justified for a second yellow and the red card. Its disappointing because Justin's just come back into the side and was showing good progress and looking like he's fit, so we're disappointed that we'll lose him for a game now.
