That was the best performance of the season I would suggest.
Yeah it was, certainly I thought we were excellent first half and deserved the 1 - 0 lead. Again, not the first time this season that we've conceded very early into the second half. But then I thought then we've come back and made full use of their misfortune in terms of their keeper being injured and not having a replacement, but thought we were worthy of the victory today.
You say you took advantage and you did just that at the keeper's misfortune and you've got to put balls in the back of the net and certainly Charles and Howe did just that.
Yeah, there was still a keeper to beat, he's slightly injured but not he couldn't move around. But they've got to take their chances, we had to create them and we certainly had a good response after conceding such an early goal, something as a group we've got to look at and myself, and reasons why because not the first time it's happened.
But as we saw on Tuesday we were able to come out second half and mirror the same kind of performance. That probably is the disappointing fact and maybe the last ten, fifteen minutes where I thought we got a little bit sloppy at times and probably got a few more goals.
The fact is you got four goals and that's the important thing for both the confidence to the team and more importantly for the strikers.
Well of course, I've spoken before and many a time that striker breeds on goals and his confidence gets raised by that. You see that by Rene's performance today, I think he's getting better.
Great for Ryan Charles because of the tremendous work rate he puts in, sometimes he runs out of steam when he gets into good areas to score, but I'm pleased for him to get up and running for the club and nothing I think that he didn't deserve. Max Porter, two in five games now, Justin Miller off, so we're getting goals from different areas.
We're not reliant on certain individuals, which is a good thing for us again because that's what's a big factor for us last year, that we had a lot of goal scorers in double figures and different people. So if we continue that this year, we'll give ourselves a chance.
And the defence, we spoke before the game, you had injuries. Jamie Stuart's back, Justin Miller's come in, scored a goal. You've certainly got the cover there.
We've certainly got cover in the defensive area this season. That's shown because we lost two players from our starting back four from Tuesday night. So I made two changes to our back four and I thought they looked like they've played together before, looked like a good unit. So that was certainly pleasing in terms of having to make as many changes to a back four as we did.
I think all in all it's a very, very good team performance rather than individuals today and I thought we continued to show that work ethic and that hunger to succeed and I'm sure we can continue to build on these two excellent performances and results.
And two more days and we've got another game coming up and you know how important that is to the fans bearing in mind it's Kettering Town. You'll go there full of confidence obviously.
Well yes, I think after a slow start we've back to back victories now and we go to our enemies and arch rivals and we know how important this game is. And I think we've always known form goes out of the window in these games and I think we'll have to be on our game. They've had a good result today, they're not conceding many goals, they'll be pleased, Lee will be pleased with their start.
Looking forward to a very tough but good encounter.
On the injuries, we spoke before the game, is anybody likely to be fit, is Shane Huke in fact the only person who might just be fit for Monday?
I think that's going to be a bit unrealistic. I'd like to see someone knocking and getting closer but they're getting closer and we've got to be patient, we've got to be sensible, but it think we'll probably have no one coming back into the fray for Monday but hopefully one, maybe two for Saturday away.
