Justin Edinburgh: We're solid and competitive

Posted on: Tue 24 Aug 2010

We talked with Justin Edinburgh on Thursday about the formation, 4-4-3 versus 4-4-2, nad how Diamonds flexibility can suit either.

Towards the end of Tuesday's game you changed the system. Any thoughts on that for Saturday, would you be looking at that still?

Yeah I think so, I think you've always got to be looking to certainly find a system that suits your personnel and the things I saw for the last half an hour on Tuesday tends to make me lean towards the changing of the formation. Myself and Paul spoke yesterday, and will continue to do that today and have a look at one or two things certainly that may be the case come Saturday.

You've certainly got left sided players now. You've got plenty of balance in the squad and do you see Matt Johnson as wide right, because he came on there Tuesday night?

Well I saw him play there for Aveley on a couple of occasions last season so I know he's quite comfortable in playing anywhere really across the middle of the park, or anywhere across the middle four.

He's essentially a central midfielder?

Yeah he is, but I know he's certainly quite comfortable in possession of the ball and he's a very good deliverer of a cross. I thought he looked very, very accomplished when he came on Tuesday and certainly gave me plenty to think about over the next 24 hours.

But I thought we looked more threatening I would say, I think we've always looked solid in the two league games, unfortunately Dale's had three shots on target and he's had to pick the ball out of the back of the net on three occasions.

So we're certainly solid, certainly competitive, which I thought we were. But maybe the personnel we have might suit a 4-4-2 better than it does a 4-3-3.
