Max York: I Can't wait to get started

Posted on: Thu 15 Jul 2010

We spoke to new signing Max York after training and ahead of the new season.

It's the first preseason I've had full time with double sessions and it's been hard but it's going to be. I've just got to get used to it and enjoy it when I can.

Have you settled in nicely? The other new lads have spoken about a good spirit.

Yeah, definitely, there's a great bunch of lads, I'm just trying to gel in, get to know them and then that'll come into play through the season.

Did you know anybody before you came in, or is it completely new to you?

No, it's a completely new experience. Don't know any of the lads here, but getting to know a few of them and they seem a good bunch of lads.

And a good spirit from what was achieved last season and they seem to be welcoming the new lads as well.

Oh yeah, obviously what they achieved last year getting to the playoffs was great and they're welcoming all of us in which is great and hopefully we can get to know them better and progress altogether this year.

Do you feel confident as a group that you can at least match what happened last year and push on?

Yeah, definitely. A few of the lads have said the pre season's been better this year than what it was last year and obviously for what they achieved last year then we should match it or go better this year.

Just to talk about your time at Histon, you were at Cambridge before that, is that right?

Yeah I was at Cambridge as a scholar just in preseason, and then joined Histon the following year.

How long had you been at Histon?

Just a year.

Were you full time?

I was full time as part of the academy, but part time with the first team.

How would you describe yourself as a player? Are you an attack minded midfielder?

Any sort of central midfield player, I can be defensive or attacking or just play any sort of role in the middle.

Obviously you're looking forward to it. How much of a role did the manager play part in coming here as well in terms of talking to him before you signed?

When I first started talking to people, it was more Paul Driver who I was speaking to but I did speak to the manager and sort of sorted things out that way.

But impressed by what they were saying to you?

Oh, yeah definitely. Certainly more than impressed. It's a great set up and it's fantastic.

Presumably Paul knew you from academy level and perhaps spotted you?

Yeah, I've played against the Rushden & Diamonds academy in a cup game and from there I think he knew who I was from that game and he'd seen me play a few times and then Rushden spoke to me and I started speaking to him.

Did the interest come as a surprise to you or did you have a few options anyway?

No, it was definitely a surprise. I did have a few offers but Rushden & Diamonds was definitely the best offer and I had my mind set on that straight away.

And of course it's handy locally.

Yeah, travelling is not too bad, only about forty minutes so that's handy.

Just looking forward to it now, get going, maybe get a few games under your belt as well?

Yeah, I can't wait to get started and get a few games, hopefully with some goals as well.
