We spoke to Paul Driver following today's news about his appointment as Assistant Manager at Rushden & Diamonds FC
Paul - congratulations on the step up - you must be very pleased
"I'm absolutely delighted to be given the chance at the club, honoured to get the chance to work at that level at such a good club, obviously I've been here for a few years now so I know quite a few of the people in and around.
I don't think there's any other club like it in terms of the contact you get with supporters, so the main word really is honoured to get the chance to do it, and excited about working with the squad of players that we've got, that the manager is building. Its not going to be massively different to last season, it should be a bit stronger.
I worked with the players to a degree last year at the matches, but it's a great chance to work with them day in, day out on the training pitch."
How do you see the new challenge, of shifting from development of young players to a more results game?
"I had a text this morning that simply said welcome to the nervous game! From the youth side of things it is very much a case of developing for the first team, results aren't as important. Now it's a results based business, like all managment teams at that level we're judged on that, if we can do as well as we did last year and build on that with the new players that Justin is bringing in, hopefully the results will come and we can take the club to the next level up."
