Michael Corcoran: We need to win our battles & work hard

Posted on: Tue 23 Mar 2010

On Saturday, do you think it'll be the same as Histon and Tamworth, maybe just nicking a 1-0?

I don't know, we just need to keep a clean sheet and see what happens and I think if we win our battles and work hard, then I don't think any one could live with us, I don't think anybody in the league has really outplayed us this year so I think it's up to ourselves what the result will be.

You had a big win up there last year.

Yeah we beat them 4-0 and I think they were actually trying to get the game called off with ten minutes to go because of the fog but it was a good result, we might only score one or two this time but if we can put in a good performance then we'll see what happens.

How do you see the picture in terms of the playoffs, results seem to go for you in the chasing pack.

Results are going for us at the moment but the gaffer keeps telling us to keep doing what we're doing and if we concentrate then things will fall into place and I think that's what's happening. We've just been plugging away and getting the results recently and that's all we can do and hopefully things will go right for us.

Do you think you can catch Stevenage or Oxford?

I don't know, we're not even really talking about the playoffs or title, we're just playing game by game and getting on with it and if that mean winning games then great but we'll just see what happens, we've got a big ten games left and as the gaffer says it's ten cup finals.

We always talk about your position at right back and the competition for places, you got left out of the Kettering game which the gaffer said was undeserved but it must have been pleasing to be captain for Tamworth.

I was pleased, I didn't know what the gaffer was going to do, I was very disappointed with being left out of the Kettering game but it's a team game and Curtis Osano, Jamie Stuart and Simon Downer are three of the best defenders in the league but it's a squad game and we've got more tough games coming up, so we need to stay together.

It does show the strength if a player as good as Curtis is on the bench.

It show you what we're doing as a team, I'm sure Curtis would have been as disappointed as I was because we'd kept two clean sheets away, but I'm sure he'll just take it on the chin and move on.

So the captaincy itself must have been a big honour, obviously Jamie's back now but do you feel you have a role to play?

Jamie's back now but it was a big honour because I'm still only twenty one, but I just go with what the gaffer thinks and I can do that role if Jamie's not there, it's a big responsibility but it's just what I am, I like leading. Obviously now Jamie's back and I'll still do what I have to do, I have no problems when Jamie is captain and we need a few leaders out on the pitch and I think it's starting to show.
