We spoke to Justin Edinburgh ahead of the Diamonds home game on Saturday (3:00pm) against Gateshead about how the team is getting ready for that final stretch of the season and how the tight 1-0's can be taken as a real positive.
Justin, so the last couple of games have been close at 1-0, what do you think?
Well it doesn't matter how many goals you score, you still only get three points at the end of it, two clean sheets gives us an opportunity to go on and win games so then only one goal is required. We haven't been free scoring recently and goals have been hard to come by, but they've been spread all over the pitch and as long as that continues then we'll have no problems.
We we're definitely in the home run for the last part of the season and you have to feel that the team is now poised to make a good run now to push for promotion.
Yeah we're confident, we're competitive, we can see the finishing line and if we can continue to keep everyone fit and keep their form and composure, because obviously there's no doubt that nerves will creep in and there's some funny old results that we've seen of late, certainly from other teams.
How impressed are you with the defensive performances, three clean sheets must give you a massive amount of confidence regardless of who you're playing.
Yeah, I think they've justified three clean sheets as well. They've been very competitive, we include the goalkeeper in that to make that back five who, since the rumours that he was going to be leaving to go to Gateshead, has been outstanding. But as I said, we defend as a team and that means we defend from the front as well, it's not just solely the back five, it's about the midfield three and the front three so the team as a whole has earnt their clean sheets, they've not been given them and it's a platform that will give us the confidence to go on and win games.
