Justin Edinburgh: Sometimes it goes for you

Posted on: Fri 12 Mar 2010

We had chances in the first half where I didn't think we were ruthless enough. I said at half time I hope we don't come to regret those missed chances but fortunately Max Porter popped up with a great strike and got his first goal of the season, so sometimes it goes for you and it has gone for us.

There was a period in the second half when Kurt Robinson cleared one off the line which could have gone either way and got a little bit on top but they didn't really create too much did they?

No, Dale's had to make a very good save and Robbo was there to clear the pieces up and I don't think there was a lot of quality in the game but it was a tense situation where these boys putting a lot in and they've just got to remain calm and composed and just continue to do what you've been doing in the last couple of weeks and I understand when I've played myself that it's easy to say that but if we have to grind things out we'll do that. I think we've shown in the last two games that we can mix our game that but I'd just like to see us pass the ball better in the second half than we did. I thought Byrne and Max in possession of the ball were pretty poor but on the upside they've worked their socks off. I think we may have nicked it against the run of play in the second half but it was a game of two halves really.

This time last year you wouldn't have done that and it's the kind of game that would have ended up 0-0 or lost it, that's hope far they've come and as you say two very different games this week but they've brought out the defensive qualities in you.

I think you're certainly right, I think we may have gone on to lose that game last year but I think it was positive that we had four strikers on the pitch at the end of the game, we weren't sitting there to take the draw, we wanted to win the game, we didn't find any rhythm in the second half and it was a case of do what we do well, which is trust one another with the football, we've played back to front too quickly and it there was a bit of a slope on the pitch here and I think we had too much of an incentive to get one ball rather than two so we've got a good spirit and I've always said that'll take us a long way and that again has taken us to the finish line on the day and we've just got over it.

You took Tommo off, tactical I presume, you might say that you then got the goal and won the game but he's not exactly on form in the last few games on his high standards.

No but we've got a free week now, he's had a bad a knock, he's got a bad bruise on his foot, he's wearing boots that are a size to big for him but that's the attitude of the boy, he wants to play football and that's credit to him and no he hasn't been at his best but it certainly takes the emphasis off the team and puts the team on the back foot, so last few games he hasn't been at his best but that's down to an injury if nothing else.
