Max Porter: Results went our way on Tuesday
We spoke to Max about Wednesday's victory over Histon.
I think we started well but then unfortunately the sending off happened and then from there the performance was just full of grit and determination and the results sort of went our way on Tuesday so it was a big win for us.
The gaffer said before the game you had to capitalise on that, maybe the Mansfield Luton result in particular.
Yeah he mentioned that and said that this is the time of the season where if we really want to be contenders that we've got to go out and prove it, it may not have been pretty second half but everyone put their bodies in front of the ball and put it all in really and some of the defending was immense from the back four and from everyone.
A team effort then?
A great team effort and Jeff up front ran himself into the ground and obviously the wide boys, Patto came on and did really well for us and made some key blocks so it was a great team effort against a Histon team that had played some pretty direct football, had lots of freekicks which they're obviously very good at but we really stood up to the test so delighted with the three points.
It does send a message to everybody else as well.
I think teams will look at and look at the fact we only had ten men as well. We've gone about our business well this season, we've played the games the right way and played our own football so results like last night aren't about that but maybe about the other side of the game.
It's good that you can do both sides of it, you can do the ugly side as well.
We were missing two influential players last night as well, three if you include Rob Wolleaston and we still came out with the points and I can't stress enough that it really was important.
From your point of view, obviously Macca got sent off and you took over in the second half in that Paul Terry role if you like, did you enjoy it?
No I didn't enjoy it at all (laughs), it was a lot of selfless running but it was for the team and that's what counts but the lad I was playing against kept on making lots of runs off the long balls and trying to pick off second balls and from there it was really about getting the ball and trying to keep it, it was hard as we didn't really have many options so it was just a battle of attrition.
