Cliff Akurang: Histon have a big place in my heart

Posted on: Wed 03 Mar 2010

We spoke to Cliff Akurang ahead of Wednesday's game against Histon in the Blue Square Premier

You scored twice against Histon at Nene Park, and didn't celebrate as a mark of respect for your old club - do you still feel that way?

Yeah, Histon were a big part of my career and have a big place in my heart really, I really enjoyed my time there and got on with everybody, the fans, the players, the management.

They must have been a big part in terms of you getting to play in the Football League with Barnet too.

Yeah, I couldn't do it on my own without my team mates really helping, if they hadn't been giving me the service then I wouldn't have been able to score the goals and make the step up.

If you do get the chance to score will you celebrate it? Or keep it low key.

I've got a little bet on with Simon Parsell that if I score from outside the box I'll celebrate running up to him, but other than that I'll just run back to the halfway line, as long as we win the game that's all I want.

Going back there, things have changed financially, and people have moved on - will it be strange going back to Histon for you.

Yeah, I've been back there once before and got quite a good reception - so hopefully will get the same this time.
