Justin Edinburgh: Squad News

Posted on: Fri 19 Feb 2010

Justin lets us know the injuries, doubts and selection head-aches ahead of Oxford.

Squad wise, would Neil Cousins be the only injury?

That's right, we know that Neil's out for the season but we go to Oxford with nineteen in the squad, which is a full squad.

A notable addition to the squad then after the last couple of games is Lee Tomlin.

I'm pleased Lee's back no doubt about that but I'm also pleased for the squad as we've realised we can win games without Lee, there's no doubt he's been exceptional and he'd be the first to admit that he could not have put in those performances without his team mates but his moments of magic have won us games and maybe people may have thought that in the two games without him we might have struggled and we certainly haven't, we've scored three goals, kept two clean sheets and we've beaten the leaders in one of those games and that's testament to the players and I think that gives them that extra belief as we're a team and not an individual.

Does he start or is that a difficult decision for you, presumably it's more difficult than Cockers or Osano?

It's a massive decision but like Michael's earned his place and if he keeps his form up he'll keep his shirt but it is a different element with Lee cause he does give us that edge and that extra bit that can open up any team at any one given time.

In a game like this as well, you could probably use him.

Of course and yes it is a selection headache.

It's also a headache who you leave out.

It's going to be my job to let that player know and explain why and convince him that it's not about individuals, it's about a team and I've got to be fair that everyone since the start of the season has understood that, haven't always accepted it which I'd be disappointed if they did but there's been no sulking or prolonging on it, they've got along with the job and I think it's shown over the games when they've come back in, scored goals and played their part. Cockers was left out and came back in and scored goals, Cliff's come back and played a part, Wolly's been out and come back again so we've had no after reactions of anyone being left out and I think that's what makes us a strong unit and we all realise that we're doing it for one another and not solely ourselves.

A word on them, I think I'm right in saying Constable is back.

I should imagine he's come back in from injury and he's a hard working player, he's a team player that's for sure, he gets his goals and I think he's captain, so he's danger as I'm sure they all are and I expect a good game.

Having said that, defensively you've done well of course and the two centre back know what they're doing.

They do and they're good players who are complimenting each other well, both on top of their games as the whole back five have been, Dale's been excellent over the last five or six games, his handling has been impeccable and decision making good, both full backs have done well but we defend from the front which makes the defence's job easier with the amount of pressure we apply higher up the pitch so the two centre halves have been in excellent form of late and hopefully that will continue to the end of the season.
