Curtis Osano spoke after the Barrow game, and was asked for his views on that game, as well as the forthcoming fixture at Ebbsfleet.
Curtis, you started centre back on Saturday, as opposed to right back, so obviously it means you can't get forward as much, do you mind that?
No, not at all really. If the gaffer needs me there, then I'll do a job for him. It's hard to fill a player like Simon Downer's boots, but you get in there and see what you can do for the team. At centre back it's more "defensive, defensive, defensive" to clear your lines. If something comes up at set pieces you see what you can do, but you don't get to do as much running and going forwards.
So does that mean you prefer being at right back?
To be fair I enjoy defending either way, at right back you're lucky to be able to get forward and I enjoy that, whereas sometimes at centre half its more about getting in the way which is enjoyable too.
It was all about the other end of the pitch on Saturday but how do you feel it went?
The strikers were on form and we were told beforehand exactly what we needed to do to win this game, and that's probably the best we've seen the strikers play this season. Everything was sticking, everything was getting laid off, and their big centre halves were getting bullied, and that's really everything a striker needs to be doing and it just all seemed to click.
The partnership between Cliff and Craig seemed to work, and I think that's the first time we've seen them together and it seemed to click.
Definitely. Craig is a quality player with two good feet and he can get goals anywhere. Cliff is big with the power and strength, and both of them mixed together are a handful, even in training they're horrible to play against, that's why I go right back ! I think Craig had his eyes on a hat-trick, so didn't want to come off but that is good as it shows you've got the hunger for it, and he's looking good at the moment.
After a performance like that you can't really have any more confidence then you have, you've got to be absolutely buzzing going into tomorrow?
We've had a few games where we've had one decent half and one not so good half but after Saturday the confidence is sky high all around the pitch, defensively and going forwards, and hopefully we can take that into a few more games.
As a defender is your main focus on a clean sheet tomorrow because we've only had one so far.
We talk about it as a unit before the game, and then again between the defenders to give the team the best chance of getting a clean sheet. We just seem to be leaking in goals at the moment, which we need to stop if we're going to move up the table. We said at half-time at Barrow that the main focus was now a clean sheet, as the strikers had done their job, but that's one of the things we need to iron out. Our concentration is probably the main reason, as if one person switches off a little bit then that often means a goal is conceded.
At centre back on Saturday it must have helped being alongside Jamie Stuart?
He's been one of the main players so far and you really could stick him in any team even at a higher level. Every game and even training session he's in early and prepares so that he can give 110%. He gets his head sorted out and talks to the younger players and tells you when they've done well and he's constructive if you haven't done so well - everything he does is 110%. Playing next to him means he's telling you what to do and it makes your job so much easier - every club needs a player like him in the team.
Paul Terry has now joined the Diamonds, and he's another who has been there and done it before - presumably he's talking to the younger lads on the pitch too?
I'd never actually seen him play before but after a performance like that you can tell he has such an experienced head on his shoulders. He talks to you and tells you what stages of the game you're at, and whether you should "hit the channels" or "pop it in there" and it makes your life easier. He knows what needs to be done to win a game.
Quick word about tomorrow, they're struggling at the bottom but every away match at this level is tough.
That's true, there aren't really any teams at this level that you expect will do really badly, and if you go to away games expecting to roll a result out then you will get turned over. Tomorrow we go into the game with a lot of confidence and we'll aim to get three points and if we play our game then we've got no excuses really. If the defenders keep a clean sheet and the strikers do their thing again then that should add up to three points.
And hopefully a goal for yourself too, you're perhaps due another one.
Yes hopefully ! Robbo and I have got a bit of a competition going on for who scores the first goal and who scores the most this season. I've got a couple of celebrations ready too, with a few dances, a few poses and all sorts coming out, so hopefully we're not waiting too long for it.
Thanks for your time.
