We chatted to Michael Stone about the Hayes & Yeading and Forest Green Rovers games, having a free midweek and the bank holiday double header against Stevenage and Cambridge
First of all an update on injuries.
We have a few knocks. We were pleased really to get a couple of them back, rather surprisingly to get them through Saturday's match. The break has come pretty much at a good time this week and we can regroup and get ready. Sam Smith and Kurt Robinson did a little bit of training this morning, which is good to see.
We're still waiting on Nicky McNamara and Rob Wolleaston, so keeping an eye on there, we'll know more during the middle to later part of the week.
That's pretty been much been it, Aaron (O'Connor), as you know has been ill all last week, but he managed to pick himself up off his sickbed and come and be on the bench and get off the mark which is great so it was good for him to be involved on Saturday quite unexpectedly.
Craig Farrell, is he ok?
Craig's ok. Craig was another one who had a fitness test before Saturday's game. We weren't expecting him to come through it but the change between Friday and Saturday over night, his ankle had improved a lot and he gave us immediately the thumbs up, he was very positive coming in on Saturday.
We were very pleased with the way he finished the game Tuesday night, he had that kind of momentum, it's nice to stay in the team and there's that competitive element among the strikers right now. They're all off the mark and they don't really want to miss much football because they know they might drop down the pecking order. So it's nice.
Is there a bit of concern about Nicky or has it cleared up now?
If we're honest with you, we're still waiting, he'll probably have a scan this week just to see if there is any problem, or the other way, to make sure there isn't a problem there. It's just a case of getting that done and waiting to see.
He got a fright like any player would. He's a young player and his knee just locked, so he just got frightened from it. So fingers crossed, it won't be as serious as it looked at the time and we might be able to push on with his rehab.
Finger's crossed you'll have a full squad bank holiday, which will be ideal bearing in mind there's two games in a short space of time.
Two games in three days. The biggest doubts will probably be Nicky McNamara and Rob Wolleaston. If we can get Sam and Kurt Robinson through session later on in the week, they could feature in the squads, but the biggest doubts are Nicky McNamara and Rob Wolleaston. Like you say, two games in three days, you need all your players, but it's early days.
Not everyone's going to be able to play in both games in such a short space of time I'd expect.
The biggest plus really this week is the fact we don't have a midweek game. We've now played five games in a short space of time and with a few knocks and bruises, we've got to dust ourselves off and reflect how the first five games have gone and prepare for a really mouth watering weekend.
Two teams you'd expect to be up there at the end of the season, two teams who have got off to fairly mediocre starts. So a chance to get points on the board and take points off teams who will be up there at the end of the season.
It's a good chance to test ourselves against opposition who are expected to be up there. We have hopes of being up there as well, it's games we need to take points from. We know Stevenage sometimes start the season a bit slowly but I went to watch them pre-season. They're a very strong outfit, they're a very strong squad, they've brought some very good players in and they'll be very difficult at home and be looking to kick start, as it has been stop - start, to kick start their push up the league table. As will Cambridge when they come to us on the Bank Holiday Monday. So we can go into it in a more positive mind with two back to back wins at home, which made those two points away from home look very useful and we can certainly go into it in a more positive frame of mind, but we are under no illusions, these two matches are going to be very tough and we're going have to really have to be on our game to come away with points.
