Aynsley McDonald given Welsh Under 17 Call-Up
Rushden & Diamonds Youth Team player Aynsley McDonald has been called up to the Welsh Under 17 squad for an invitational Four Nation tournament in Sweden between Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Wales.
The tournament is for Under 18 teams, however Wales will be sending their Under 17's in preparation for their forthcoming UEFA Qualifiers.
Wales' fixtures are:
Iceland v Wales - Tuesday 14th July
Norway v Wales - Thursday 16th July
Sweden v Wales - Saturday 18th July
The games will all take place around the Falkenberg area of South-West Sweden.
Paul Driver, Head of Youth at Rushden & Diamonds said "Its a training camp and three games so is another bit of great news for Aynsley. He's obviously done enough to get into the squad yet again, which is made up of all Premiership and Championship players. The only downside to this is that he misses his driving test! Aynsley's call-up acts as yet more proof if we needed it, that we must be doing something right in the youth system. Its been a good week for us with one of our players making a prestigious move to a 'big four' club and then an international call-up for Aynsley playing against a level above.
The full Welsh squad is:
Rhys Wilson (Swansea City), Connor Roberts (Everton), Adam Matthews (Cardiff City), Aynsley McDonald (Rushden & Diamonds), Joe Walsh (Swansea City) , Daniel Alfei (Swansea City), Kieron Freeman (Nottingham Forest), Billy Bodin (Swindon Town), Lee Lucas (Swansea City), Joshua Dawkin (Norwich City), Reece Jones (Fulham), Shane Williams (Birmingham City), Jonathan Williams (Crystal Palace), Kayelden Brown (West Bromwich Albion), Elliot Chamberlain (Leicester City), Jonathan Meades (Cardiff City), Jake McEaneaney (Burnley), Richard Peniket (Fulham).
