Justin Edinburgh: We Looked Sharp

Posted on: Thu 31 Dec 2009

It was Tomlin's brilliance again that separated the two sides.

Yeah, I said pre-match, we needed to start fast and get into our stride early and I thought we did that. I thought we were very accomplished up to 2-0 but I'm a bit disappointed with the spell after that, where we turned away from what we were having success with and we let them back in the game but overall I'm delighted, especially with not playing for so long as it was a good result and a good performance.

And the second goal itself was special?

Oh, it's something special and that's what he's got. I think after that he was trying to do too much, trying things , I don't know whether he sees them on telly or whatever! But the boy's a talent, that's 11 goals he's got now from midfield and I don't think you can question that at all. We know what's coming round the corner, on 1st January the window opens and I expect the inevitable may happen, but the boy deserves all the credit for whatever the future hold for him.

Have you had any definite interest, offers or bids?

No, not recently, obviously one or two enquiries prior to the loan window closing but I think anyone who was here today will know what he's about, he's pulling balls out the skies covered with snow on them. He's a talent but I thought it was a good all round performance today. The centre halves had to be excellent, Simon Downer came in, again from being out in the cold and has done very well and it's good to see Rob Wolleaston back on the pitch. It was a good result against a team that are on the back of some good performances and good results.

You had to switch your defence around as you said because of the illness of Michael Corcoran, Jamie Stuart was absolutely immense at the back today and obviously Curtis Osano going back to right back.

Yeah, I thought the two centre halves were outstanding, Kurt Robinson was very positive in his play today, he bombed on when it was necessary, tidied up and covered round. Curtis probably will need a couple more games to get used to that right back position again but as a back four they probably deserved a clean sheet but unfortunately didn't get that today.

Obviously before the game, you were talking about the fact that you hadn't had much play on a pitch so you must be pleased with the superb performance.

Yes, I thought we moved the ball well, looked sharp with the front three with Tomlin joining in with O'Connor and Farrell and the interchanging play. I'm delighted with the performance and certainly the result.

Moving on to Oxford, will the players get a day off?

Yeah, a day off tomorrow (Tuesday 29th) and then back in training the next two days preparation, it's going to be a big game and a big gate, we've had a good win here and hopefully we'll take that to New Year's Day.
