Match Reaction - Torquay
So, a good win today Garry
Yes, a win is always a good win, especially against Torquay who are going well in the League and Trophy this year and are one of the better footballing teams. So to turn round and play against them on the back of so many hard games recently was a big test of our character, especially as we have a series of games at the moment.
To go 1-0 down so early on meant it would be a case of how we would respond to it, both mentally and physically and I thought we hung in there and certainly got better going in to half-time and got a good equaliser on the stroke of half-time. I said to the lads at half-time that if the belief was there and we worked hard then we could go on and win this and deservedly so, in the second half we could have won it by 2 or 3 in the end.
I'm pleased for the boys, we've had a hard week with a lot of travelling but we've got some promising youngsters pushing through now and some experienced heads who are working hard for them so it's been a very good week.
As you said the games are coming thick and fast, are there any injury worries ahead of the next week?
There are some tired legs out there at the moment but we'll get them in and give them a rubdown and see how they are and then pick the team for Saturday. This will be our 4th game in 7 days and we've picked up 3 wins out of 3 so the supporters who travelled down to Forest Green and Stafford as well as all the fans who turned out tonight will be pleased that we're picking up points as well as the commitment the lads have been showing.
New keeper Mikkel Andersen made his debut today, what did you make of him?
He's come in as everyone's aware of our situation with injuries galore in that position at the moment and we had a situation where Martyn Margarson had to play the other night when he wasn't fit to play, and again he wasn't fit enough tonight due to a bad thigh strain which has reacted to Tuesday so we've brought Mikkel in from Reading for a week after special dispensation and we'll go from there. I'm pleased for him to come in tonight without really knowing the boys and for him to be on the winning team. The League turned round to me on Tuesday and said his paperwork hadn't cleared in time but we got the go ahead tonight. He's here until next Tuesday and after then we'll see where we are.
Have you ever been in a situation where the goalkeeping problem has been this bad?
No, so it's certainly been hard with regards to sorting things out but the response from the players and the staff in terms of sticking together has been great and to go Forest Green and Stafford and win and then again tonight against Torquay has been great. At this time of the season when we can't go up and can't go downand sometimes players go through the motions, so it's been very encouraging that the lads are digging deep and showing some good character and I'm just pleased that it's three on the bounce now so we'll get the boys out for another tough game against Exeter on Saturday.
I guess one of your priorities for the off-season will be a new keeper then?
They'll be a lot going on in the summer no doubt about that but I feel I've got a nucleus in the squad to work with and now this club is heading in the right direction.
