Spotted by one of the Diamonds scouts at an under-16 county trial in Lincoln, goalkeeper Martyn signed a scholarship deal with the club in August 2004. After a number of impressive performances for the youth team and the reserves, he signed a one year contract on 17 May 2007. In order to gain first team experience, he went out on a one month loan (later extended to three) to Long Buckby on 9 August 2007. He was recalled on 26 October 2007 to step up a level with Rugby Town, where he remained until 26 January 2008. He had a further one month spell on loan to Soham Town Rangers on 20 February. That exercise paid off when Diamonds suffered a goalkeeping crisis at the end of the season, and he made his League debut against Stafford Rangers in April 2008 in difficult circumstances whilst carrying an injury. Following his recovery he was able to make two further league starts before the end of the season, as well as earning the man-of-the-match credit as the Diamonds retained the Hillier Senior Cup in the last game of the season. The club exercised an extension option on his contract for the 2008 / 2009 season, and agreed a season long loan with Boston United, but on 11th September 2008 he was released from that contract to allow him to join Boston United permanently.
