Scott was born in Glasgow and started his career north of the border. He played in goal for Albion Rovers making his debut in April 2001 and managed to score a last minute equaliser against QueensPark in February 2003. He played over 50 games, before signing for Championship side CoventryCity in July 2003 for a nominal fee and became their first choice keeper. He represented Scotland in a B International while with Coventry. He lost his place to Luke Steele in September 2004, when the Manchester United keeper was brought in for a season long loan, and arrived at NenePark on 18 February 2005 for a one month loan. After just ten days however, he was recalled to back to Coventry due to injuries but played just one more time for them. He returned to Diamonds on 11 March 2005 for the remainder of the season.
He was released by Coventry at the end of the season, and joined Bristol Rovers in July 2005. After being first choice keeper for a year, he lost his place and went on a three month loan deal with ShrewsburyTown in October 2006. The loan was extended to the end of the season, and he should have played in the League Two play off final, but the match was against his parent club, so he was barred from playing despite being released a few days later. He joined WycombeWanderers on 29 May 2007, but a knee injury kept him sidelined for most of the season. Having recovered for the start of the 2008/09 season, he suffered a recurrence of an ankle problem in February 2009.
