Gary was brought in by Ernie Tippett on a one month loan deal from Wolverhampton Wanderers on 14 October 2004. The Dublin born striker impressed scoring twice during his first few appearances, including an overhead kick at Wycombe, and his loan deal was extended for a further two months. He made 13 appearances before returning to Wolves. He left the West Midlands to join Sheffield United for a year (including a loan periods at Port Vale and Gillingham), before moving to Gillingham on a permanent basis prior to the start of the 2007 / 2008 season. He stayed in Kent for two seasons before moving to Northampton Town on a one year deal in July 2009. He was released after just a single season at Sixfields, and joined Conference North side Gateshead on 6 August 2010 on a short term deal, which was later extended until the end of the season.
