Midfielder Gary Mills has had two stays with the Diamonds. He made 124 league appearances for the Diamonds in his first spell, from 1998 to 2006, after progressing through the Nene Park youth system and was the Club's longest serving player up until his departure. After helping the club to the Conference championship in 2001, and the Division 3 championship in 2003 he suffered a long layoff of a year shortly after the Diamonds returned to the bottom tier of the Football League, as a result of an injury picked up in a game at Oxford.
He only made five league starts following that injury before he moved on, joining Crawley Town during the pre-season period in 2006/07 on a short-term deal for the club during their off the field problems. When his contract expired at Crawley the then Diamonds Manager, Graham Westley, was quick to snap up the midfielder, who went on to make 15 starts and 2 substitute appearances during his second stay with the club.
After being released for a second time he joined his namesake at Tamworth for a short spell before moving to Kettering Town. He was then signed for Stevenage Borough by Graham Westley prior to the start of the 2008-09 season, and helped the club to FA Trophy success in 2009. He then moved in the close season to Mansfield Town.
