Utility player Andy Kirkup was with Rushden Town when the Diamonds were formed, and made his debut for the new club in their first FA Cup game defeat, at Hednesford. He scored the first Diamonds hat-trick - against Evesham, as he broke his duck in the league for the club. He remained with the club as they gained promotion into the Conference via the Southern League Premier Division, but his opportunities in the Conference were limited to substitute appearances. Since leaving the Diamonds for Gloucester City he has been on the staff at Cambridge City.
