Midfielder Ritchie Hanlon joined the Diamonds from fellow non-league team Welling prior to the start of the 1998-99 season. After impressing in just seven games during his stay, he was transferred to Peterborough United in a deal that saw Miquel De Souza arrive at Nene Park. After struggling to gain first team football at London Road he was loaned back to Welling before Brian Talbot brought him back to Nene Park shortly after the Diamonds gained a place in the Football League as he realised he needed to strengthen the side after the side's poor showing in their first few league games.

After helping the Diamonds reach the Division 3 playoffs in the 2001-02 season he picked up a serious injury in a pre-season game at Stamford, and missed the entire 2002-03 season. On his return the Diamonds were in Division 2, and he had to adjust quickly to the game at this higher level. With the Diamonds relegated at the end of that season he left the club, and joined Stevenage Borough, and after a spell back in the league with Lincoln City he joined Cambridge United, where injury was to end his career.

He had a spell in management at St Albans City.in 2007, but left that role two months into the 2007-08 season.
