Ex-Northampton Town trainee Richard Butcher had joined the Diamonds youth setup in 1999, and went on to appear in both the Hillier Cup and FA Trophy for the club, but only made the bench as an unused substitute in Conference Games. He left the club in 2001 to join Kettering Town, as the Diamonds moved into the Football League. After the Poppies he moved up to the Football League with Lincoln City, for whom he made over 100 appearances.

 

He has since moved on to Oldham Athletic, Peterborough United and Notts County, from where he was released at the end of the 2008-09 season. He then signed to return to Lincoln City for the 2009-10 season.
